and there were shepherds . . .

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by...an angel of the Lord appeared to them ..."

"I have always loved this view ~
the hills green, dotted with the sheep."

"I especially love being here on this side when it is their night where I can look up into these stars.  It is so quiet for them -- such a silent night."

"Look! The shepherds are asleep...hmmmm, well, mostly . . ."

"Wait, there  -- see a few  -- there and there -- are on watch. Their eyes like eagles scan the darkness for shadows moving where they should not, but --"

"We have no shadows!"
They are a wonder ~ men ~ don't you think?"

"Remember David, sitting there alone?"

"Yes, just there  ~ with that harp, singing to his sheep, and to Him on all those dark nights."

"He is to call Himself David's Son, you know. It is, I think --  it is for him, for David, that we greet these men with this news now."

"What I remember is that first time -- but that was Egypt -- when he went forth, our brother who carries death, to all those homes, snuffing out the breath of the first born --"

" -- but saving those with blood upon the door, the blood of all those lambs. And these lambs, their blood will commemorate that night."

" -- until He becomes their Lamb of God...until His blood is the covering. I know He loves them -- but to do this ~"

"I cannot quite get my mind around it yet. He is to be  -- man...I guess really He is one even now. I did not quite understand when He formed man in His own image! But now I think I see...He could slip inside.
But still...the cost, to lay aside all He is ? ? to grow there to be a babe, and then a child, and then a man -- and . . . then . . ."

"OH the wonder -- the glory -- the goodness this brings. I cannot wait until they know that He is here  -- here to buy them back."

"Shhhh. Wait! It has happened! His cry ~ it echos to the very edges of the stars He formed and filled with light. And now, it's time. We get to tell them."

"I love seeing Gabriel in this form, where they can see him with their eyes."

"OH! shhhhhh, Gabriel speaks --"

"Do not be afraid."

"Ahhh poor men. Yes, he was right to have us hide until he spoke.  Oh...what they will see! I almost -- almost -- wish to be one of them, now at this juncture of the times."

"And now ~ our turn!! We shall sing for all eternity to hear! OH GLORY!!!"

"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men
         on whom His favor rests"
