OK, so Dan had to write an anecdote as an English assignment, and I want him to write more...so I am publishing his here :

"That first day was ... well ... I don't know how to describe it. Wait ~ it was loud. That I remember -- loud. I think I remember, anyway ...", said the old man.
"Please Levi, tell me about that day." said the 12 year old boy.
"All right, all right. We were on a boat, all 12 of us. That day had been loud: first the crowd, then the storm. Yes sirs, I think my ears are still ringing. Those waves ~ some were taller than 25 cubits. We almost sank 1000 times."
Levi's nephew gasped and his eyes widened.
"Then we saw him -- a man walking across the water like a ghost!"
"Wwwwhhhhooo was it?" gasped Joshua.
"It was Jesus." Levi's voice was low and thin.
"Then he said, 'Don't be afraid' and Peter called out 'Lord -- if it is you ... tell me to come, to come to you across the water!' And . . . and Jesus did! Then Peter stepped out of the boat!"
"Oh!! What happened?" piped Josh.
"That part of the story is for tomorrow...so you be better be good and go to sleep." said Levi with a smile and a wink.

"The Kings and the Prophets" or "What profiteth it a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul?"

In the Northern Kingdom ~ Israel ~ the king, Jeroboam, has a son named Abijah. He is sick. It must have been really bad because he tells his wife to disguise herself and go to Shiloh to talk to the prophet Ahijah. He says, "Go to Shiloh, Abijah the prophet is there -- the one who told me I would be king over this people." That tells me that he must have told his wife about the prophetic encounters he had had: ripped cloak, dried up hand and broken altar. I wonder about her...what did she think? Did she know God at all, or just 'about' him? She goes to this prophet and gets "schooled" -- as they say. She disguises herself as her husband asked and is greeted with, " Come in wife of Jeroboam. Why the pretence?" The prophet proceeds to tell her MUCH more than she, I am guessing, expected to hear. randomness

So it is spring here. Spring like I remember it when I was little . . .  this morning  my daughter, looking out at the drizzly rain said, "I thought it was supposed to be 'April showers bring May flowers' not 'May showers brings June gloom' -- but that's what it is" I like it. I do love waking to the crisp air and the dull grey sky, the drips of drizzle sliding down the leaves of the bushes outside the window. I love the contrast of the grey sky and the sharp baby green of the spring leaves on the trees. I like the reprieve of cool days before the onslaught of heat that July will bring. I know...July seems forever from now. It isn't. It won't rain hard. It won't rain all day. Just enough. It feels familar to me ... like a glance over my shoulder at when I was 14. That was long ago...and so far away, even squinting I can only just barely read the street signs over my shoulder. Humm: 14, more like a fairy tale than a memory. Maybe that...
